Member Spotlight: Nora Ortega

Nora Ortega is 35 years old and has been a member for one year. Nora's decision to lose weight was because she had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and began to feel constantly sick. She knew she had to do something about it, so she joined our YMCA.
Nora was at her heaviest weight, which was 230 pounds. She has now lost over 40 pounds and has gained tremendous energy. Her biggest obstacle was not knowing how to use the cardio and strength-training machines properly.
The classes were very hard for her in the beginning, and she felt as if she had no energy. Nora couldn't walk 20 minutes on the treadmill without being out of breath.
She really appreciates Marion Hunt, one of our great fitness instructors at Rauner, for all her help in losing weight and explaining to her the right way to do cardio and use the machines properly.
Marion is always there to listen and give her the information she needs. "She is an excellent instructor," Nora says. Nora's future goals are to continue to stay fit and keep losing weight. She comes in five times a week and works out for 2-4 hours each day. She calls our Y her second home, and plans to keep it that way!
