Letter from the Executive Director

Dear YMCA Members and Friends,

I am excited to have the opportunity to once again share what is happening at the McCormick Tribune YMCA. On April 17 we celebrated our annual Healthy Kids Day. Over 85 youth celebrated with us and learned about ways to take care of their health and nutrition. Kids made healthy snacks and learned about ways to maintain their health from the various vendors who took part in the event. Kids also had fun being active in the jump house and with various games. A special thanks to One Brick for bringing out their staff to help with the event.

We are excited that our summer campers have returned. If you have not already done so, contact the front desk for day camp information.

We continue to see steady growth in our membership base. There are many new members in our YMCA family. I am hearing good things from the members about the improvements we made to the center last fall. We are making even more updates including an expanded fitness center, expanded youth center, new equipment and a new cycling room. We are working hard to make this YMCA a friendly and high quality environment for all. We welcome your feedback.

Remember that your YMCA membership entitles you to many high-energy and high-quality classes. Come on out and give a class a try. Not only will you get a good work out, but you will meet other members and make some new friends.

You also might want to consider a massage. Jose Burgos is McCormick Tribune's very own certified Massage Therapist. Jose has been with us for a little over a year. He has quite the extensive background in Message Therapy, and he is certified through The Soma Institute, which is The National School of Clinical Massage Therapy.

This season I want to give a special thanks to one of our long-serving staff members. Rosa Nodal has been with the YMCA in this community for over 20 years. Rosa is one of those special people who can perform almost any job in the center. She has a strong commitment to the people we serve. Along with her other duties, Rosa is filling in as the member services person.

This summer we are planning some additional improvements to the center that I think will make your experience at this YMCA even more enjoyable so stay tuned.

As always, please consider this YMCA in your charitable giving this year. This YMCA needs your support to help us continue meeting needs and to grow in our ability to help the youth and families. Your generous contribution is greatly appreciated.

Our goal for 2010 is $25,000.

Pete Sari,
Executive Director
