Dear YMCA Members and Friends,
In our last newsletter to you we listed and thanked the hundreds of volunteers who give their time and talent to the Indian Boundary YMCA. In this newsletter, I'd like to take a minute to recognize a few of our many partners.
Our YMCA partners with the Woodridge JC Penney Store. Through a program where customers are asked if they would like to round up their purchase to the next dollar to support community afterschool programs, our Y school-age care program receives a check to support quality improvement and scholarships.
The Downers Grove Rotary has been an IBY donor for a number of years. This year Rotary is sponsoring Grove Fest. The community event replaces the Heritage Fest and will be held July 15-18. We encourage our members to attend and have pledged volunteers to help during the Fest. Let us know if you are interested.
IBY is gearing up for a full partnership with the FORWARD Initiative, a community-wide coalition building effort housed in the DuPage County Health Department. FORWARD works through a diverse and informed coalition of individuals, programs and agencies to improve the health and well-being of the children and families in DuPage County. The goal is to reverse the obesity trend. With funding, we hope to conduct a community healthy living assessment and begin to develop strategies to help overcome the barriers to healthy living.
Finally, the Y has been long committed to the concept of wellness, which makes the Wellness House a likely partner. The Wellness House offers psychosocial support, education, and information as a complement to medical treatment to cancer patients, their families and friends. The YMCA will make membership available to Wellness House members. We welcome the chance to create new support communities for these members.
We are looking forward to another warm and exciting summer at the Indian Boundary YMCA. Over the summer, we'll teach hundreds of children to swim and to be safe in and around water. Our day camp will be out in full force, teaching healthy habits, an appreciation for the outdoors, character values and new ways to have fun.
Our summer T-ball and softball leagues will allow children to develop life-long interests and talents in these sports. Our adult fitness and wellness programs will continue to challenge us to stay active and commit to healthy living. Our annual golf outing is set to raise $24,000 for our Strong Kids fund. And our Downtown Downers Grove market will bring fresh fruits and vegetables and other wholesome foods to our members and the community. Please enjoy your summer at the Y.
