Dear YMCA Members and Friends,
The High Ridge YMCA Seniors continue to amaze me with their self-motivation, passion to support our mission and all of their wisdom. You can see this large group typically weekday mornings, drinking cups of coffee in the multipurpose room, and chatting about the topic of the day. "Todd's Class" - as we should rename it - has brought a community of individuals together who are advocates for their health, but most importantly ambassadors for each other. They rely on each other for conversation, concern and friendship.
The High Ridge YMCA mission and purpose is alive in our seniors. We see it every day! Our seniors go beyond our expectations by hosting fundraisers in order to get necessary equipment for their programs as well as help with our annual Kids Need Heroes campaign.
Whether its delicious grilled cheese sandwiches, corn beef on rye, or soup that warms our insides, the seniors have contributed over $800 to the High Ridge YMCA.
The senior program has grown due in large part to the Healthways program, which partners with several supplemental insurance companies to provide seniors free membership, making it easier for them to stay fit and healthy.
However, we would be remiss if we didn't give accolades to Todd Ellsworth. Todd, our morning instructor, has touched the lives of so many. He has established a core group of exercisers who are living healthier lives because of his class. They have reduced their blood pressure, have eliminated the need for prescription drugs, and will undoubtedly live stronger. Todd's gift is seen, but most of all felt. Thank you, Todd.
On June 4, our seniors participated in their 2nd annual Walk Chicago. They have over 20 participants who faithfully come out to participate in this event. You won't be able to miss them in their newly designed red shirts that our YMCA staff proudly wears.
