Silver Sneaker Spotlight: Jeanette Hajt

Jeanette Hajt had always led an active lifestyle, even thru her 80's. But late in the year of 2010, she experienced a terrible fall and shattered her right elbow. Repairs to her elbow required a metal plate, (15) screws and a lot of physical therapy and prayers. After
about a year and a half of a sedentary routine, Jeanette was encouraged to join at the Foglia YMCA Silver Sneaker program to improve her arm movement, her balance and to help her to regain an active lifestyle.

Today at 87 years old, Jeanette absolutely loves to come to the Foglia YMCA for her Silver Sneaker class. She enjoys the instructors at our YMCA tremendously, enjoys the other class members, has regained her stamina, and her arm strength continues to improve.

The Silver Sneaker program definitely has made a difference in her life. It is a program that she has benefited
from not only physically but also emotionally too. This program gives her something to look forward to every week and we are so happy that she is taking an active role toward a healthier and more active lifestyle!

School Age Child Care Fall Activities

New for 2012-2013 School Year!
Intramural Sports
This newly added option for the 2012-2013 school year will allow your child to participate in intramurals during our after school program!

We will bus them from their after school site to the Y for intramural sports which will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:00pm.

Afterwards, our program will continue to run and your child may be picked up at the YMCA by 6:00pm. Our staff will supervise them while they participate in intramurals under the direction of our Youth Sports Department and then stay with them afterwards to finish up homework, play games, or go outside.

Intramurals will run according to session dates and will roughly follow the schedule listed below. Swim lessons will also continue to be offered but will switch to the 4:15-4:55pm time slot.

From 2:30-7:30pm the Center will serve our teens and is open to all Foglia YMCA members ages 9-14 and Ela Township Middle School Club participants.

Here is what to expect in the NEW center:

• Designated education area with SMART Board, computer stations, iPads and more!
• Addition of entertainment area and equipment such as Wii, sound system and more!

Day Camp Wrap Up

It was another exciting and eventful summer for everyone involved with the Foglia YMCA Summer Camp! This summer campers enjoyed a wide variety of activities ranging from field trips to guest speakers to good old-fashioned camp games.

Our teen campers were able to go on field trips twice a week to locations such as Six Flags, Chicago Cubs game, Orbit Skate Rink, Shedd Aquarium, Barefoot Bay, and many others.

Campers of all ages experienced some exciting guest speakers including two former Olympians, the Lake Zurich Police Department, and Dave DiNaso and the Traveling World of Reptiles. On days when there was no field trip or guest speaker, campers enjoyed plenty of time outside, swimming daily, playing group games, doing arts & crafts, or climbing the rock wall. Whatever the day's plans were all of the campers and counselors were having a great time making memories that will last a lifetime.

Our specialty camps of 2012 have never been more popular. We have had over 600 kids registered for almost 50 different specialty camps.

It was an amazing summer filled with lots of great times! All of us here at the Foglia YMCA are already looking forward to next year's summer camp and we hope to see you there!
