What do you like most about working for the YMCA?
The thing I love most about working at the YMCA is the people I meet and interact with on a daily basis. From my coworkers, to parents, to the kids I meet every day - it really makes my time here at Foglia extremely enjoyable and rewarding.
How did you decide to work for the YMCA and how long have you worked here?
When I was 16 I was looking for a summer job where I could be outside and be active. At the time my sister was a camp counselor here at Foglia and she helped me get my first job here as a before and after care counselor during summer camp. I have worked almost every school year and every summer since then, totaling about 7 years that I have been working at Foglia.
Share a favorite memory at the YMCA.
I would have to say my favorite memories are when parents tell me how much the Y has helped them and their families. From helping to provide scholarships to families so their children to go to camp, to parents who are just happy their child has a safe/fun place to go after school. Hearing those stories really helps you realize how important and useful the YMCA is to our community.
Why do you think the YMCA is important in your community?
I have seen firsthand all that Foglia has done to help the community in many different aspects. Foglia provides a safe place for children of all ages to come be active, socialize with peers, and develop a strong sense of self confidence. The Y is also a place where members of all ages can come work out and stay healthy either alone or with friends and family.
Do you have any healthy lifestyle advice for members?
Try and be active every day, even if that means just going for a 20 minute walk. Working out doesn't have to be 60-90 minutes of intense exercise. A simple 20 min walk everyday can do wonders for you physical health.
What's your favorite program/class at the YMCA and why?
My favorite program would have to be the Teen Nights that we offer once a month during the school year. From 8-9pm on those nights is probably the biggest/craziest dodge ball games I have been a part of!
