Wellness House, located in Hinsdale, provides information, support and a community to help families live with cancer. Founded in 1990 by a committed group of community leaders, Wellness House serves as a vital complement to medical treatment for anyone experiencing the effects of cancer by providing a comprehensive array of programs at no cost to participants. Wellness House exists to improve the quality of life for those who are affected by cancer and its treatment.
If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with cancer, Wellness House invites you to participate in its programs. You can connect to the latest cancer information through one of its many special events; connect to others who are going through similar experiences within networking groups; and connect to programs and resources for stress reduction and healthy lifestyles in the exercise and nutrition classes. GLG YMCA and the Wellness House have united in an effort to provide continuous care to recovering cancer patients.
Wellness House offers a Family Wellness series, with children up to age 18, as part of its Family Matters program. Families experiencing cancer come together once a month to participate in wellness activities. A special event will be held from 5:45 to 7pm Wednesday, Aug 4. "Wellness Through Cooking" will be presented by Cheryl Brookhouzen, executive pastry chef at the Marriott Hotel Chicago. Chef Cheryl will teach about the health benefits of summer berries, such as the antioxidants linked with blueberries, and will lead the group in making a healthy and delicious berry creation.
