Something to Think About...

When you come into the Greater LaGrange YMCA, do you just see a place to exercise? Or maybe it's where your child takes preschool classes. Perhaps you need to look a little closer.

DID YOU KNOW ...
although we have moved into a smaller facility, the Greater LaGrange YMCA still does everything it used to do with the community? Did you know that this Y has raised and donated nearly $1.5 million to community organizations and programs over the past 10 years?

Money is raised every year through the annual fund and is distributed a number of ways. The majority of the money provides youth, senior and family memberships to people who may be experiencing financial hardships. At GLG, we believe that every child, adult, family and senior should have the opportunity to learn to swim, make new friends, exercise, build self-esteem and create a healthy lifestyle, regardless of their ability to pay.

DID YOU KNOW ... Each year scholarships also are awarded to numerous children so they can enjoy summer days filled with healthy, fun and adventurous activities during day camp.

DID YOU KNOW ... GLG also supports the Special Olympics softball, swim and bowling teams. We are especially proud of the swim team this year. Every member qualified to compete in June at the state level at Illinois State University in Normal.

DID YOU KNOW ...
The Y also works with other community organizations, including its partnership with the La Grange Rotary Club. The two groups sponsor the Pilgrim Pacer every November. Recently, the Y joined forces with a local chiropractor, Dr. Victor Manzo Jr., who is providing numerous services to Y members.

The first was the offering of free spinal health assessments to interested Y members during member appreciation day on Wednesday, June 16, in the Y building. He also offered physical evaluations to fathers and their children every Tuesday and Friday afternoon and Saturday morning during the month of June, in honor of Father's Day. Appointments can be made by calling 708.497.2441.

Dr. Manzo also is forming a group of runners to train together for the Chicago Marathon. Anyone interested can email him at DrManzo@healthbydrvic.com

So whether it's raising money, providing a safe, healthy place for a child in the summer or working with other community leaders, it's obvious the Greater LaGrange YMCA is so much more than JUST a place to workout.

And now you know!
