Are You a Health Seeker?

The YMCA is redefining itself and engaging communities across the country to better support Americans of all ages who are struggling to achieve and maintain well-being of spirit, mind and body. We are shifting how we focus all aspects or our work, both inside and outside the YMCA, to better engage "health seekers."

We define health-seekers as all children, youth, teens, adults and families whose successful pursuit of health and well-being requires continuously supportive relationships and environments. Inside the YMCA, we are influencing and motivating health seekers to make positive changes in their pursuit of well-being. And, outside the YMCA, we are helping create and sustain healthier communities.

Research has shown the health risks associated with inactivity include: premature death, heart disease, obesity, high blood pressue, adult-onset diabetes, osteoporosis, stroke, depression, cancer and other health-related illnesses. Even moderate amounts of exercise are attributed to:
• Better health
• Improved fitness
• Improved posture and balance
• Positive self-esteem
• Weight control and better nutrition
• Stronger muscles and bones
• Feeling more energetic
• Relaxation and reduced stress
• Continued independent living later in life

Our YMCA staff is here to help you adapt and achieve a "healthier lifestyle." They will listen to your needs, help you set realistic goals and offer suggestions on exercises, classes and equipment usage that will help you meet your goals. So remember, one step at a time, and that small changes to our daily routine really do make a difference.
